Will this ice cream sandwich help me finish my ten page paper or will it put me to sleep?

Seems like an oxymoron, right? Well, with a bit of attention and care, it doesn't have to be. Okay, so sometimes it's hard to resist that greasy slice of pizza at 4am, but for the sake of your brain and your body…try! It's easy to quickly grab the first thing your stomach tells you at the dining hall, but ask yourself, Will this ice cream sandwich help me finish my ten page paper or will it put me to sleep?

Healthy Study Group Snacks

If you're studying with friends, pledge to bring healthy snacks only while you study. Use SignUpGenius.com and have everyone in your study group volunteer to bring a different healthy snack to your session. Choose veggies and dip instead of chips and dip. Bring fresh fruit instead of gummy bears.

Late Night Munchies

Try to avoid eating late at night all together. Instead, look forward to that big nutritious breakfast in the morning to start your day off right. It really is the most important meal of the day.

Healthy Beverages

Also, don't become dependent on coffee or energy drinks for fuel. Instead, drink lots of water throughout the day. Decrease your carbohydrate intake as the day progresses so you don't become sluggish and crash during valuable afternoon study time.

The Golden Rule

Remember the golden rule for college nutrition: THINK BEFORE YOU EAT. Opt for brain food while studying. Power up with proteins like nuts and trail mix rather than crashing with cookies and coke. Always stay hydrated, and remember green is good!

Sure, it's impossible to follow all of this advice, all of the time. It is college after all, and you want to have fun. Just do your best to stick to these tips as much as possible, and enjoy the little splurges from time to time.

Just a note to say how much I love SignUpGenius. I'm coaching a team from Team-in-Training that is fundraising and training to ride 100 miles around Lake Tahoe to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We have weekly training rides that need volunteer support and a need to get RSVP's from the cyclists so I know who will show up at team rides. Using SignUpGenius, I have ride support volunteers for almost all our rides through early May. This has been like pulling teeth in the past. It was so simple to set up and send out and easy for the volunteers to sign up.
